MAKE SURE THAT YOU SAIL FOR TRUE NORTH

Not every Charterer should always buy Charterer’s Liability Insurance.

Perhaps not the advice you expect to read on a site of an insurance broker but that’s where we differ. Insurance is just one of many aspects of managing your risks as a Charterer.

We believe the key question is how much control you want or even need to exercise over the transport. That will not only dictate the contract form which is best suited for you but equally the exposure you will face.

Whether that exposure is best managed by taking out insurance is secondary, but not less important.

We are first and foremost shipping people and we do not only understand shipping and its risks, we also know whether you in your capacity as Charterer are exposed or not and whether it truly makes sense to buy insurance. When partnering with us you truly buy value for money!.

YOU BETTER SAIL WITH TRUE NORTH MARINE

MORE ABOUT US

We pride ourselves that we are first and foremost shipping people, having worked for and with shipping companies from the beginning of our respective careers.

We do not only thoroughly understand your business, we also know how to deal with the setbacks that each and every shipping company will have to face from time to time. Our challenge is to turn setbacks into rewarding experiences, no matter how weird that may sound when you are just about to face a claim which may well result in a financial loss.

Having all of us a background in marine claims handling, we do not only know how to steer away from a potential loss making scenario, but equally when a claim is not avoidable how to make the best of an otherwise unwelcome situation. Claims are not without reason called invitations to make things better.

TRUE P&I

Who needs Charterers’ Liability insurance?

Seemingly a simple question, but is it? Roughly 50 % of Charterers go uninsured.

Why? Probably some of them on purpose but the vast majority are unware of their potential exposure. Some even believe, that when they have proper cargo insurance in place they do not need full Charterers’ Liability insurance. Maybe correct in some instances but in most cases more likely not.

Even if you do not consider yourself a Charterer you may face charter-like responsibilities which may turn into nasty liabilities.

Charterers’ Liability insurance is not one fix for all. An operator for example requires quite another approach when it comes to covering his potential liabilities as a Charterer in comparison with the needs of a trader or a freight forwarder for that matter.

We will be able to advise you whether you should consider to insure against your potential exposure and if so how to tailor a Charterers’ Liability policy to your needs.

Being right is one thing, getting there is much more difficult and it often turns out to be a costly exercise especially if you (have to) hire external lawyers. With the benefit of hindsight a bad settlement then often turns out to have been more cost effective than a good judgement. We do not wish you to experience that sentiment and if you already have, not again. We firmly believe that good settlements can be achieved in a very cost effective manner as well, and if legal proceedings are unavoidable notwithstanding it is very advisable that you are backed by a marine defence insurance.

TRUE CARGO

You take pride in producing, growing or making goods and the quality has been recognized by others both home and abroad. Maybe you are an international trader and as such you are in charge of transport of the goods. Yet, marine transport is not part of your core competences, and even though it is taken care of, you want to benefit of professional advice or a sparring partner if you like, especially when it runs less smoothly than expected.

We are well equipped to offer that assistance, translating legal and operational shipping knowledge into practical advice, thereby addressing all different capacities you may hold, be it as Seller, Buyer, Shipper, Receiver, Merchant or even as Charterer, following any sale of goods you are involved in.

Besides, and depending on the terms of your contracts of sale, we can offer tailored cargo insurance solutions to accompany your goods when they leave a warehouse, either until risk is transferred to your contractual counterpart or beyond, depending on your contractual obligations.
